ABOUT
Gia Savage is a graduate of Spelman College (‘16) and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she earned her Masters of Science degree in May 2017. Her graduate studies focused on broadcast news, in addition to writing courses. As a student reporter, she worked as a one-man band, following stories, composing scripts, conducting interviews, shooting and editing video and sound.
She has a wealth of experience in live television news production, having produced in Jackson, Tennessee and Indianapolis, Indiana. The bulk of her knowledge is in morning news, though she has produced evening, late-night and weekend newscasts, as well.
Savage is formerly a staff writer for Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine where she covered Minority Serving Institutions, including HBCUs, HSIs, Tribal Colleges and AAPIs. Her stories focused on students, faculty and staff, school governance and LGBTQ issues on campuses.
She currently serves in the Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing at her alma mater, Spelman College.
